金面山是條熱門的登山路徑，位置在內湖捷運西湖站附近，無論是開車或走路都可以輕易抵達。 登山路線很短，爬升很快，而且是走在稜線上，所以風景很棒，很適合當作休閒運動的路線。 整個山系屬單面山，呈現東南面平緩而西北面陡峭的山勢，稜線主步道高低起伏變化大是一大特色。 由於山頂裸露的石英砂岩在陽光照射下，會閃閃發亮，故名為金面山。
