Life is beautiful: UMBC community pays tribute to Jamie C. Heard

Last week, the UMBC community gathered in the RAC Arena for a vigil in honor of the late Jamie C. Heard, who passed away last Sunday. The vigil was organized by students, with the help of several different departments including the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program, the Office of Residential Life, and the Office of Student Life.The people gathered wore white t-shirts to celebrate the life of Jamie. As Jamie’s family members, UMBC students, faculty, and staff entered the RAC, they were handed colorful ribbons to represent the different kinds of fruits that Jamie was fond of: Apples, oranges, and bananas. There were two things that upset me this past week. One was trying to figure out the Facebook status of this guy I used to like and trying to find some sort of cryptic meaning behind it. Senior Dance Show a success

Planting flowers and wearing neon shirts are the cliché ways of ushering in the spring season. Going to the spring dance showcase will be my new seasonal ritual. The talent of our UMBC dancers and choreographers never gets old or boring. The program started off with a piece that reminded me of why I love art and dance in the first place. Choreographer Ann Chapman took a seemingly simple biology specimen and made it into an art piece. "Protozoa" followed the trials and tribulations of these microscopic organisms, from birth to death. Baseball Wins Series: Takes Three from Albany

Baseball followed up a sweep of Hartford by taking three of four against Albany, reigning AEC champions, this past weekend.In game one of the Friday double header, UMBC went down to a 5-0 deficit with just tow and a half innings played in a seven inning game. But in the bottom of the third a leadoff double by freshman Rich Conlon sparked a comeback. After Conlon’s at bat, the pitcher threw a wild pitch that passed the catcher, allowing Conlon to move 90-feet to third.
