UMBC Much Needed Victory!!!!!

UMBC got a much needed win on Saturday. Coming into the game the home team in this series actually had the better record so UMBC winning was not a big surprise although considering on the season they had a losing record at home this was great. To be fair although UMBC had started the season 0-9 all of those losses came to teams with winning records that either had played in the NCAA tournament or the NIT within the past couple of years.

UMBC won this game though primarily because they played defense which allowed them to get back into the game, they scored points, got the advantage on the boards offensively and defensively got to the free throw line more, made their free throws forced turnovers, did not give up to many turnovers shot a higher field goal percentage put pressure on Americans guards in the half court and full court and got out in transition and allowed American to shoot a higher percentage from the 3 point arc but convert very few shots Robbie Jacksons presence inside was key to that happening.

if Chauncey Gilliam, Robbie Jackson Chris De La Rosa, and Matt Spadfora and the talented freshman’s that they have including Shawn Grant continue to play like they did Saturday UMBC could turn their season around extremely quickly if not in non conference play definitely they will be a force in the American East Conference. The biggest thing with this team is consistency especially on defense once that happens this team is dangerous because this squad can definitely put up points. Finally Virgina Tech may win on Tuesday but once this tough non conference stretch is over this squad will be seasoned and prepared to have an impact in their conference Chauncey Gilliam is the key, if he can continue to lead all scorers this and he gets some help wow this team will be rolling.
