Weezer Changes Concert Venue
By: Gaby Arevalo -

Despite announcing that they were coming to UMBC on December 9, Weezer will no longer be playing in the RAC. The show has been moved to the Patriot Center, and sources tell TRW that the reason is that those planning the concert wanted to sell more seats than the RAC can hold.

However, there is good news for the music fans at UMBC. Tickets for the November 12th Raekwon show on campus will be sold starting this Wednesday at noon.

Shit, I was looking forward to hear the “Beverly Hills” song live, cuz it’s ma song, yo!

P.S.: I din’t know Raekwon was still alive… He must be like 50 years old now, ain’t he?

Tyrone - October 28, 2009, 3:35 pm

too bad no one who has any taste for music won’t want to see raekwon

son - October 28, 2009, 4:30 pm

Obviously, as you quite clearly exemplify the sort of upstanding fellows that have a “proper” taste in music.

Disregarding the lack of punctuation, capitalization and grammatical ability, of course.

Father. - October 28, 2009, 7:17 pm

I’m sorry Father that I forgot to utilize the proper punctuation in my sarcastic response to the post made by the Retriever Weaklings. actually im not

son - October 28, 2009, 8:22 pm

I’m gonna tell my dad (who is 47) about Raekwon concert. He might wanna come!

Jessica - October 28, 2009, 11:17 pm

Them Asian girls gonna get it!

Raekwon - October 28, 2009, 11:41 pm

Raekwon > Weezer. Wu-Tang Clan > Weezer.

nig - October 29, 2009, 12:27 am

oh yay! I love maturity!

Phoebe - October 29, 2009, 3:17 am

so is that what the “line” was for yesterday in the commons? looks like this will be a sad sad concert.

sad smiley face - October 29, 2009, 10:16 am

Ugh, it sucks that Weezer isn’t coming here… we can’t blame UMBC for it though. Too bad the concert isn’t somewhere closer, like Baltimore….

Moo - October 29, 2009, 10:41 am

They could play at both! Come on, Weezer. I love you but you’ve disappointed me.

Lisa - October 29, 2009, 11:30 am

no, the line was for monsterbash tickets…who is sponsoring this Raekwon concert? Whoever it is, they need to quit using umbc students’ money to fund this crap. come on. Bring an artist that is actually somewhat talented. raekwon < t-pain < dog feces

mike - October 29, 2009, 11:44 am

WU-TANG CLAN AIN”T NOTHIN’ TO F*** WITH!!

Wu-Tang - October 29, 2009, 3:04 pm

I’m so bummed Weezer isn’t coming to UMBC! I was really excited to see a band that I actually knew who they were and liked their music!!

amu - October 29, 2009, 8:24 pm

I don’t care about Weezer. They’ve only had one successful album so far and keep coming up with stupid 8th graders’ songs. Bring a band of more caliber such as My Chemical Romance. Now, those guys can really play hard.

AJ - October 29, 2009, 10:54 pm

My Chemical Romance? Lulwut?

huh - October 29, 2009, 11:59 pm

MCR?

Go cut yourself off-campus. You’ll get the floors dirty.

Father. - October 30, 2009, 8:16 am

Whatever happened to people having the right to their own opinions, anyway? Just because we’re in the blogosphere doesn’t mean we, who are supposed to be quasi-mature, given that we’re in college for goodness sakes, should bash each other for our tastes.

Anyway, I don’t know if you guys know, but MCR did play here in Fall 2005.

Moo - October 30, 2009, 12:35 pm

So if you listen to MCR, you gotta cut yourself? What a ignorant or aren’t you just profiling? Or you just say “Oh no, I can’t listen to the band because then I have to cut myself?”. Moo, tell that ignorant if the floors got dirty.

AJ - October 30, 2009, 5:50 pm

Wow…last time I checked MCR had 0 successful albums and 1.5 or 2 good ones.
Weezer has like over 9999 successful albums and could wipe their behinds with MCR’s leather coats and leather pants and hair dye and make up and epi les pauls and leather boots.

in other words

any weezer > any MCR
any weezer > good MCR
weezer in their prime >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MCR in their prime

MCR anything ever

joe - October 31, 2009, 7:49 pm

I saw Weezer at the Virgin Mobile Free Fest this summer, and they were pretty good. I’m somewhat bummed that they’re not coming here, but why are we getting no-talent rap acts on campus? I remember hearing we got Ludacris one year way back…if we’re gonna get rap acts, could we at least get good artists. Raekwon, no thanks.

Kyle - November 1, 2009, 12:21 am

Yeah cuz my chemical romance plays some quality music…i’m pretty sure everybody knows and likes weezer and if they don’t they are just plain stupid. every album has been amazing

Bobby - November 1, 2009, 1:35 am

…and yes, agreeing with everyone above me, if you listen to my chemical romance you cut yourself

Bobby - November 1, 2009, 1:37 am

Yay, another terrible rap show coming to UMBC… is it because of our proximity to Baltimore? I was totally looking forward to having Weezer “break it down” for us in the RAC (if I may use the regionally popular expression). Alas, My Chemical Romance was here a few years back, so they’re not likely to come again any time soon…and while it was a good show, do cut yourself somewhere else and leave us out of your emotional messes. Since the Fall/Winter Concert has already panned out to be a flop, hopefully UMBC will come through for us and bring someone worth our time for Quadmania…When was the last time they did that?

JAM - November 1, 2009, 1:38 pm

Oh, and Joe? Excessive use of >. Tone that down a little, let’s try and not have to scroll in weird directions to read you dummies’ posts.

JAM - November 1, 2009, 1:41 pm

well i’ve gotta agree that i’m not a fan of mcr… they just haven’t made anything that i’ve found too exciting… and i have a pretty wide musical taste. i’m actually pretty bummed that weezer changed their venue… i was really looking forward to that… raekwon’s gonna be awesome, though. i don’t know why people would think that he’s a “no good rap act.” compared to what’s currently out there, i’d say he’s pretty damn good.

msc - November 1, 2009, 10:11 pm

I AGREE!!! lets have something other than rap. please give me something good. because we are in baltimore, we have to listen to rap? COME ON!!! give us something good… and PLEEEEAAAAASSEEEEEEEE no MCR!! PLEASE!

Chick - November 1, 2009, 11:55 pm

>>>>>> What a retard!!!! Shove your Beverly Hills Song UP your DEEPNESS of YOUR BEHIND. ENJOY IT.

MAJ - November 2, 2009, 12:14 am

New Weezer is better than MCR.

burn.

UMBCrazy - November 2, 2009, 2:55 am

For those trying to compare this Raekwon concert to the T-Pain concert of Spring 08, there is absolutely no comparison. T-Pain is not even a talentless rap act. T-Pain is a talentless pop act. His music hardly resembles hip-hop music or hip-hop culture. And let’s be honest, who has ever heard his real voice. However, Raekwon is considered one of the better emcees of all time and was a prominent member of the Wu-Tang Clan (listen to one of their albums. They draw from a variety of influences, not all of them musical). His album Only Built for Cuban Lynx is regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. He has influenced a number of artists throughout the years.

Regardless of who UMBC gets to play here (Weezer would have been great), everyone should respect the artist in concern, whether its T-Pain, Girl Talk, AAR, MCR, or Raekwon. It’s just arrogant to “hate” an artist without knowing who they are, without listening to their music, or without knowing how they have influenced music. I can’t stand T-Pain or MCR, but I respect the work they put into their music and the uniqueness of their sounds.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing those of you who RESPECT hip-hop music at this show.

NAM - November 2, 2009, 10:26 am

Doesn’t it seem like Weezer’s new single “Party All the Time” featuring Lil’ Wayne (although I’m not sure if he’s ever all there) sounds like Eddie Murphy’s timeless foray into pop music, “My Girl Likes to Party All the Time”?

Brian - November 2, 2009, 10:29 am

sorry JAM i didn’t realize this blog-thing couldn’t handle autowrapping
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
would have been more ideal…

but really
if you’re willing to read “us dummies’” posts and scroll “in weird directions” (which i assume means left and right, weird) with them….who’s the dummy?

but anyways, i don’t think it’s the proximity to Baltimore that’s bringing raekwon, i think it’s his fame…

joe - November 2, 2009, 1:21 pm

I think both Weezer and MCR suck. Good bands are hard to come by these days sadly. =(

JTW - November 2, 2009, 2:46 pm

Island in the sun ftw ^^

nam - November 2, 2009, 2:49 pm

just listened to MCR….. sound like a 3rd rate band….. no offence just MHO

nam - November 2, 2009, 2:51 pm

Raekwon is coming to Baltimore for a show on Novemeber 11, then he will stop at UMBC Nov 12 for extra cash. Snoop was here last week, and Maino the week b4. For more hip hop events in Baltimore, log on to my site BmoreRap.com and sign up, and/or contact me from there.

ilovemusic - November 2, 2009, 3:48 pm

NO! NO! NO! FUCK NO!

NO!

Shitballs Stephens - November 3, 2009, 9:18 am

What this campus needs is somebody real, ya heard. Get Young Jeezy up in here. Let the Snowman make the snow fall.

Mark - November 3, 2009, 11:27 pm

Wow, I have a friend that knows someone on the SEB and they said that if Raekwon doesn’t do well, they might have to pull Owl City because they won’t be able to afford it. It seems like there might be some truth to it, because the Owl City show is supposed to be officially happening in February, but I still haven’t heard any promotion about it. I’ve never really heard of Raekwon, but I’m going to buy a ticket anyway because I freakin’ love Owl City!! If they don’t come here, I’m transferring.
