On September 13th, a harassment case involving 2nd degree assault and a 4th degree sexual offense was reported to UMBC police. The incident allegedly took place on September 9th in the Meyerhoff Chemistry building.
The victim was a student, and the offender was apparently a UMBC staff or faculty member.
According to Chief Antonio Williams, the investigation is ongoing, but he has refused to reveal any further information because of the sensitive nature of the case. However, Williams says that the police are open to any information, “We’re willing to speak to anyone [who can contribute to the case].”
In conjunction with privacy, this is also a matter of safety, Williams
explains. Revealing any other details about the case would pose a threat to the campus community. “We’re very concerned about the safety and welfare of the campus. We would never knowingly put anyone in danger,” he emphasizes.
Police are continuing their investigation, but the Chief has promised to disclose the details to the campus when the time is appropriate.
