Men’s Soccer Drops 3-2 Heartbreaker to Longwood
By: Corey Johns -

For the first time this season the men’s soccer team suffered back-to-back losses.  UMBC did get out to a quick 2-0 lead after Andrew Bulls and Levi Houapeu connected on goals, but Longwood tied the game less than 10 minutes laster with two goals of their own.

In the second half UMBC had five very good opportunities to but the game out of hand for the Lancers but they could not seem to finish and missed three shots, were called offsides for another, and one was saved.

With the game tied 2-2 at the end of regulation the game went into a sudden victory overtime period.  Longwood scored a goal in the fourth minute of overtime to take the victory and spoil UMBC’s home coming.

Further coverage of this game will be featured in the October 20 issue of The Retriever Weekly.

Time to change the coach! This is not the first time when we are leading and then step back and let the opponents attack. Something is not right there…

It makes me mad enough that the Coach doesn’t give everyone fair time on the field during these games but the last game he barely subbed anyone in! The same players were working the field all 90 minutes with the exception of a few players. It was not good weather to be risking our players like that. I agree I don’t understand why we shift plays the way we do.. Did anyone else notice how BS the referee was?! It was really hard watching the game without running up to knock the ref out. Anyways, hopefully our team will bring us back at the last home game and the next away games.
