Men’s Soccer Drops Second Conference Game to New Hampshire, 2-0
By: Corey Johns -

The men’s soccer team was trying to bounce back from a conference opening loss with two straight wins.  While they got one win, they dropped a big game at home against New Hampshire, 2-0 to fall to 1-2 in the conference.

While the men’s soccer team is suffering from injuries, they were ultimately outplayed but New Hampshire and for the first time this season they failed to record a goal.  New Hampshire played a very technically sound soccer game and kept UMBC out of the game.

In the 61st minute Wildcat forward Chris Banks received the ball of a take away by Jordon Thomas and put the Wildcats on the board with a shot into the far left corner of the goal.

Just nine minutes later New Hampshire scored again, this time off a an over the top pass to Charlie Roche in a one-on-one situation against freshman goalkeeper Phil Saunders.

UMBC is now 10-2-0 and 1-2-0 in conference play.

Extended coverage of this game will be featured in the October 13, 2009 issue of The Retriever Weekly.

Ok, guys, seems like the “honeymoon”-aka-”fairytail” of UMBC soccer teams is OVER! I mean, losing to Vermont?! New Hampshire?! WTF?!! They are not even strong teams like that. How could we lose?!

You guys need to relax and support your school. Obviously you don’t play ball an amazing team like UMBC can have bad games and who knew?, injuries, sickness, and just an overall bad game. We had to out of what is it 12 now? Great job guys, forget the criticism,

We were having a great winning streak and it really upsets me to see us fall to teams like UNNH and UVM, ESPECIALLY Vermont at the conference games. I know that some of our main players are suffering from many injuries. The coaches should be subbing more people in and out instead of overworking the ones that have been playing every game every minute. But I see why he wouldn’t, we’ve won ten games and the possibility of puting a player that won’t play as strong as the starting line is a risk he might not want to take. Our players need to stop being cocky, and play good games like they did in the beginning, with a pure and strong mindset. Let’s go UMBC!

I heard the 1999 team was there in attendance….those boys could ball. Arguably, the best athletic team UMBC has EVER had in any sport. Go Dawgs!
