Well isn't a good team one that has players that step up when they need? Saunders had a great game and to say that because he made great saves the team isn't good is wrong. The goalie is part of the team. Sometimes he's had games where he only made three saves because the defense didn't let anything through. Plus I do want to add that UMBC out shot Loyola up until two minutes left. Taking the ball down the field and having possession and getting it kicked or headed out does not mean anything. Then two minutes came and they just shot everything and the goalie played great.

I think UMBC is a legit team. The simple fact is they shut out Loyola, it does not matter if it's because the defense played great or because Saunders played great, both are apart of the TEAM.

Also, Levi is great. He very well may be the best player on the team and I don't think team moral is going down because of him. He's firey and fires up his teammates.

Anyway, Congrats UMBC!

Nah, ya'all, Tyrone is somewhat right!
During the game, I couldn't help but feel bad for our goalie, because our defense were non-existent! They were literally panicking and running away from the ball everytime Loyola dudes came into our area. They basically stabbed Saunders in the back! I have mad respect for our goalie! The MVP of the game, indeed!

Thats true there is a big difference as Jonathan wrote between criticizing a team and bashing them. I don't understand why Tyrone refers to Bullis as his boy then he rips the team. Yo Tyrone check the stats UMBC is undefeated and now 8-0 for a reason one of which is thanks to the play of the second leading scorer in the nation Levi Houpeau. Hey this is a good legitimately good team. Yeah Saunders is super awesome and he helped our squad win the game but the win none the less was as well as all the wins have been team efforts. Don't hate congratulate. Maybe if DC United had players like UMBC they would be undefeated this season as well oh and one more thing Im thinking someone who works as a sports events staff might know something about actually using stats when making an argument about sports.

"True fans" cannot criticize their favorite team? "We don't have a team" is obviously speaking about a team mentality, not saying they suck. There's always room for improvement.

Hey Tyrone, lay off the HATER-ade, how can we not have a team at UMBC when we're 8-0? Seems to me we have more of a team than at least 7 other opponents we've played so far.

ps. congrats on knowing people on DC united and working at blah blah blah, someone should get to work on your trophy right away.

pss. This article was written to celebrate a perfect season thus far, people are getting excited about this team, why do you have to go and hate on everything they've accomplished so far this season...personally I don't like how you keep saying "we" in your post, like "we got lucky", you are not a true fan and don't deserve to refer to yourself as one, a true fan would savor the win over a nationally ranked team, not shit on it.

My name is Tyrone and I'm a student here at UMBC. I also work part-time as an event staff at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in D.C. during many sports events, including MLS games. Obviously, I support DC United and personally know many of the players on the team.

So yesterday I attended the UMBC vs. Loyola game, and let me share my opinion about it.

Yeah, we won, but make no mistake about it: we got extremely lucky and I didn't like the way Dawgs played at all.

UMBC scored a fast goal (thanks to my boy Bulls), but then almost entirely went back to the defense. The whole second half, Loyola was attacking and attacking and attacking. And that's despite the fact that they got a player suspended with a red card!!!

We got lucky so many times, when Loyola shots either went wide, or our goalie Saunders saved the day (he made like 6 wonderful saves). WITHOUT SAUNDERS, WE WOULD LOSE 1-4!

The bottom line is, WE DON'T HAVE A TEAM at UMBC. We just got Andrew Bulls scoring goals and Phil Saunders preventing them.

P.S.: And someone please tell that kid Levi Houapeu (number 11) to STOP arguing and fighting with his own teammates during official games. It doesn't look good and only demolishes the team spirit. If you gotta fight in you, SAVE IT FOR THE OPPONENTS!

P.P.S.: I don't really understand why the hecklers in green supporting Loyola were removed from the stadium. They were just supporting their own team. That's part of the game! School rivalry is normal! I wish UMBC would have crazy fans like that travelling with the team!
