It took 395 minutes ok playing time but a UMBC player finally scored a goal. Katie Gitlin headed in a ball off a corner kick by Aly Garzeck for the first goal scored by a Retriever and their second lead of the season. UMBC played very well in the first half and controlled the ball to go into the break with a 1-0 advantage over the Colonials.
The second half was a different story. It took just 18 seconds for George Washington to tie the game. Taryn Deitrich received a long pass up the left side of the field to won a one-on-one situation to get the ball past goalie Mo Van Vlerah.
While George Washington pressured UMBC the rest regulation the defense held up and Vlerah saved everything else that came near, totaling a career high of 10 over the course of the game.
While the game was still not settled at the end of regulation UMBC and George Washington played in two overtimes but the extra 20 minutes was still not long enough to settle anything, edning the game in a 1-1 tie.
