Passing of Alice Robinson, Founding Faculty member
By: Ariane Szu-tu -

With summer coming to a close and the Fall Semester coming into full swing, we remember former associate professor in the Department of Theater, Dr. Alice McDonnell Robinson, as one of UMBC’s most compassionate founding faculty members. Dr. Alice McDonnell Robinson passed away this summer. She was born on November 17, 1922 and retired in 1999. Students having a hard time at UMBC could find sympathy and guidance in Dr. Robinson, who devoted 33 years to UMBC. Dr. Robinson appeared in and directed many of the university’s theater productions. Her legacy will continue, however, with her bequest to the UMBC Department of Theatre for a scholarship for aspiring theatre majors, the Alice McDonnell Robinson Memorial scholarship Fund in Theatre.

Alice was an excellent teacher, researcher, editor and friend. She was a stickler for high quality in all she did. I was proud to have her as a colleagueand a friend.
