Many did not know that our own former Director of Facilities Management, Richard Butler, was battling cancer. Butler’s death last week was the second death this summer to reach the UMBC community, the first being the passing of Juliana Schamp on August 3. Butler began work at UMBC in 1980 as an Associate Director and eventually became Director of Facilities Management in 1991. He retired from UMBC in 1994 and was succeeded by the current Director of Facilities Management, Jim Donlan. The funeral takes place Friday, August 28 at 11 a.m. at the Colonial Baptist Church, 9411 Liberty Road.
