Baltimore County police apprehended and charged Jamison Harvey Johnson, 40, a man allegedly involved in an armed robbery at the Mars Supermarket off Maiden Choice Lane in Arbutus. Johnson was found bleeding and hiding in some underbrush approximately six hours after exchanging gunfire with a security guard and fleeing the supermarket.
Johnson has been formally charged with armed robbery, attempted murder and handgun violations. He was sent to shock trauma after he was found, but has since been released. Bail was denied.
The robbery took place Sunday evening just before 7 p.m. when a security guard noticed two suspicious-looking men enter the store. One of the men headed toward the back of the store while the other remained at the front, giving the appearance of being the lookout.
The security guard told the customers to move to the back of the store as the man at the front demanded cash. At the sight of the security guard, the unknown robber fled the store, at which point the second man at the back of the store fired at the security guard.
The man missed the guard and the guard fired back and wounded the robber. The two fired at each other as the man made his escape. He fled to his Honda and continued firing as he fled the scene.
The Honda was found later, abandoned, at the dead end of Wilton Farm Drive after an Arbutus resident called in suspicious behavior. A search ensued, including helicopters and a K-9 unit, until Johnson was discovered and sent to Shock Trauma.
The accomplice in the robbery has yet to be found and it is believed he made off with some cash. Mars Supermarket refused to comment.
