Robbery In UC
By: Gaby Arevalo -

On Sunday night between 9 and 10 p.m. on the top floor of the University Center after the SEB-sponsored girl talk concert, an unidentified male stole two purses belonging to SEB members. The purses were in a box under a table in the lobby outside of the UC Ballroom, where the concert took place. The purses were later recovered, but some of the contents were missing, including $100 cash and an iphone. SEB President Sameeha Azeez was one of the victims. She stated: “it is very disappointing that after all of the work that we put into making this event happen, that one of the attendees would stoop so low as to steal our personal belongings. I’m taking this as a personal attack, I don’t understand how someone could do this.”

Because only UMBC students were able to purchase tickets to the girl talk concert, it is believed that the suspect is either a UMBC student, or is affiliated with a UMBC student.

The incident is currently under investigation. Any relevant information should be reported to UMBC police at (410)-455-5555.

Update: UMBC police has released pictures of the suspect.

FYI……. This crime is not a robbery, it is a theft or a larcency. Robbery is seizing property through violence or intimidation.

lulz. never ceases to amaze me how dishonest the students and their friends are here at UMBC.

abc - April 28, 2009, 7:16 pm

How exactly do we know it was a male ?

anon - April 29, 2009, 1:01 pm

Yeah, who would suspect that someone would steal something? Keep your belongings safe.

Naive student - April 29, 2009, 1:44 pm

It is unfortunate that we cannot just leave things around, but $100 and an iphone would not be left in my purse unattended. I don’t care where we are. UMBC isn’t that safe and neither is the world. I’m amused with the comments and the President’s surprise. Guard your belongings please!

Amused Student - April 29, 2009, 7:40 pm

why would you leave your belongings underneath a table in a box? LOL come on people, really? and $100? inside? and IPHONE?! wow, its not just unfortunate but dumb. loll i feel bad for you guys

common sense says… - April 30, 2009, 11:03 am

you guys are retarded for leaving your purses in a fucking box in the first place.

you guys are stupid - April 30, 2009, 4:20 pm

Can’t be too trusting these days. Like Dwayne said, “WATCH YO SH*T!!!”

N - April 30, 2009, 10:12 pm

Some people who were there claimed they saw him. Apparently, it was some gangsta-lookin’ kid in a red hat. Supposedly, he ain’t even a UMBC student. Some girl was even sayin’ he works for Chartwells (UMBC’s foodservice company), but she wasn’t 100% sure.

Juan B.,

Nah, dawg, it’s just rumours!
I think they checked the surveillance camera later on and that’s how everybody found out it was “some dude in a red hat”.

Dwayne - May 2, 2009, 11:24 am

And those same people that saw a “gangster looking” (what does a gangster look like anyway) male taking things out of a female’s purse didnt do anything? That sounds fishy.

Alex - May 2, 2009, 1:27 pm

why can’t you believe someone would do something like that?
Is someone stealing your property that unexpected? I mean really, come on…be responsible.

Michelle - May 2, 2009, 2:39 pm

Y does it have to be “it’s Baltimore, sh*t happens”? It’s society, sh*t happens. Yo Dwayne, where you from?

Sue - May 2, 2009, 9:12 pm

Ummm, I agree with what everyone else has to say here… Why leave your belongings away from you in the first place? I’d never leave my purse, phone, etc. anywhere else, but closely by my side. Regardless of where you are, one should never do this.

Christy - May 3, 2009, 6:55 am

Bet he was black.

White Power - May 3, 2009, 1:34 pm

Why is everyone spelling words as “ur” and “u.” This isn’t text messaging. Use real words. Aren’t you college students?

marie - May 3, 2009, 4:09 pm

I can’t believe somebody is in charge of anything that can’t keep their stuff safe. They need a common sense 101 required class.

JB - May 3, 2009, 4:54 pm

Look! You guys are in college now. Learn how to be responsible. Mommy and Daddy are not hear to protect you. Keep your belongings with you at all times,or leave them HOME!Would you leave your car door unlocked on campus. No! It is the same thing. Do not asume that everyone is honest. It is not a black or a white thing, it is about being wise.

Bee - May 3, 2009, 5:25 pm

Damn, guys. Way to be supportive haha

TJE - May 4, 2009, 4:37 am

It may not be a robbery, but it’s still a d*ckhead thing to do. I hope the loser gets caught, and then appropriately disciplined. It’s hard to focus on your studies when you have to spend extra time and energy trying to protect your personal belongings at school.

Ric - May 4, 2009, 11:21 am

ay white power, ctually he and the girl were white..go check umbc underground
