Office 2007 (the program, not the television series)
By: Ryan Wiggins -

Microsoft Office 2007 has caused quite a stir–negative and positive–since it was launched in late 2006. Love it or hate it, Office 2007 is here to stay and will probably be entirely unavoidable within a few years. I for one was vexed when I went to the AOK Library earlier this semester to print out a paper–late for class, of course–and spent five precious minutes trying to figure out where the print button was before finally just hitting Ctrl + P.

In any event, I thought maybe a few links to video tutorials might help people trying to make the switch. I know the program’s over a year old now, but hey, we’re poor college students, who can afford to buy new software as soon as it comes out?

The differences between the “degrees” of Office (Student Home, Professional, etc.):

PowerPoint 2007:

PowerPoint 2007 “Effects” (made authoritative with a nerd-accented narrator):

Excel 2007 (pretty basic):

Of course, there is also OpenOffice.org 3.0 (in the campus labs, you would have to be on the Linux system; transfer your stuff from Windows using the S: and T: drives)

Office 2007 is superior. I work at best buy and i’ve heard people bashing the heck out of it now since it came out. I finally got to use it this past semester in my statistics class and I will say that for the first project I was completely lost.

However, after reading a couple small tutorials and getting used to interface, it really is a great thing. Everything is laid out for you and many of the addons that would have required seperate installations from the factory cd in previous versions have been built right into it.

I will continue to let customers at Best Buy know that after a tiny introduction (like the youtube videos posted above), they will love it!

I don’t like to reply to my own posts, but I just want to say that I completely agree with Corey. I’m not very tech savvy, but the more I use Office 2007, the more I like it.

Its amazing what people dont like doing. The office 2007 system has a lot of help features that anybody (even the most non tech person) can find useful but you would be amazed at how many people dont use it or even know how to access it. And then there is the whole online help thing. Plus for people who graduated from Office 2003 and Office XP the only difference is the interface otherwise all the functions remained the same.

After spending about 10 minutes with it I already liked it better than previous versions. You can now do something in 1 or 2 clicks that would have taken 3 or more, not to mention going through countless windows. Take the time, get used it it, it’s better

I noticed that this is not the first time you write about the topic. Why have you decided to write about it again?
