Bush Honored in Iraq
By: Paul-William deSilva -

A different, satirical look at yesterday’s incident involving President George W. Bush in Iraq:

By Tim Mantegna

A local journalist surprised Bush Sunday with a traditional Arab goodbye ceremony on his farewell visit to Iraq.

During a joint press conference featuring Bush and Nuri al-Maliki, the journalist decided he just could not hold in his excitement any longer. The man stood up and tossed his shoes to the President while yelling, “this is [your] farewell kiss!”

Caught off guard by the act of spontaneity, Bush initially ducked to avoid the shoes he thought were aimed at the Iraqi flag behind him. A Bush spokesperson confirmed that the President assumed the man was one of the protesters who want to see Iraq become the 51st state, as it is not uncommon for these people to throw footwear at the flag in a display of disgust for the Iraqi government.

It wasn’t until Bush picked up the shoes did he realize that they were in fact a beautiful pair of size 10 work boots, meant not as a sign of protest, but gratitude.

Once everyone figured out what was going on, the Secret Service stepped in to escort the man to a waiting car. He was then whisked away to a restaurant where he enjoyed an exquisite lunch with the President.

About the incident, the journalist has reportedly said, “we owe him [Bush] so much… I just wish I had more to give.” He later told Bush that the boots are a gift “from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq [under Saddam].”

Said the Bush spokesperson, “he is truly a generous and kind man. Knowing that he went out of his way to honor the President is deeply touching.” He went on to say that the administration is deeply disturbed by the way the mass media has been reporting the event from a completely negative angle. “They [the media] have spun this ceremony of thanks into a story of hate… do you have any idea how valuable a commodity shoes are in Iraq? I’ll tell ya [sic], they are not easy to come by.” Originally, the media misinterpreted the man’s overzealous giving of shoes as an angry attack, and reported it as such.

It must be comforting to Bush to know that although the American media doesn’t understand his administrations policies, the Iraqi people get it, and they are truly grateful.

This incident shows the power of the freedoms that the Iraqi’s now have, thanks to the blood of those who freed him. If that “journalist” had tried to “honor” Sadam in the same way, he and his family would have been killed.

For those of you who don’t get it, it’s called “Freedom of Speech”.

Too bad most of our American “journalists” just don’t get it either.

I don’t think throwing your shoes at someone is considered Freedom of Speech…

We should look at the shoe incident in 2 ways; it shows that Bush policy was not favored by average arabs and average Iraqis in particular because it lead to the collapse of the government that used to rule Iraq for the past 35 years and that cause a period of unrest in that country, as a result, more than 7.5 millions Iraqi forced to move out of their country or to escape to a” more secure” place which indicate the failed policy of Iraq war and all the strategic mistakes done by this administration. On the other hand, the shoe incident shows that Iraq is moving toward democracy, even though it is fragile and facing tough challenges, and a country that respect free speech and freedom of expression as a fundamental principle of life. If the reporter, the guy with the shoe, tried to even think about it during Saddam’s era, he would be executed and no body even had heard about it. Unfortunately, billions of dollars were spent and thousands of American lives were killed on a failed strategy that even Iraqis do not recognize the cost of the war.The cost of the war was so dear.. so sad…

If the Iraqi people were smart they would rebel heavily and force out the occupation which is going to be there until the empire collapses. You won’t see the ‘promised one’ pull out immediately and not keep bases there AT ALL! Why? Because he works for the same people as Bush. CFR, Trilateral Commission, etc.. The same people have been running the country for decades. Pity no one else sees the lack of difference in policy changes that will be made.

Felt good though didn’t it Dems?? Too bad the same people that run the Repubs party run yours too. LOL! No change unless there is a thought revolution in this country!!! Those that operate outside the Constitution no matter their color or creed are an enemy of the people. PERIOD!
