New Cable Channels
By: Gaby Arevalo -

Effective at 9:30 a.m. on December 11, the UMBC campus will have new cable channels. It looks like there will be more movie channels and sports channels. What channels are you happy about that were added? And on the flip side, what channels are you upset about that were taken away?

Aw…they got rid of the NASA channel?! Well I’ll forgive them I suppose…they did add NFL Network after all.

Andrew M. - December 9, 2008, 5:23 pm

This is pissing me off now. No more Comcast Sport Net? So I get to miss all the Capitals Games? And no more Versus as well? Is this plan made to piss off all local Caps fans?

J. Alexander - December 9, 2008, 11:37 pm

A few more HD channels please.

CZhang - December 10, 2008, 9:31 am

No Bravo? That’s lame.

Lar - December 10, 2008, 11:01 am

Wow… one of the only reasons I watch tv is for Bravo…. way to go!

Emily - December 10, 2008, 11:35 am

NFL and NHL networks are a good addition along with more movie channels.
Why the fuck would they get rid of ComcastSportsNet and Versus.
Now I can only get my hockey fix from the NHL network, which does have some good games.

BTW, NASA TV is channel 34.

nig - December 10, 2008, 12:08 pm

NOOOO! They got rid of so many HD channels. All that’s left are four of the major networks.

HD - December 10, 2008, 12:48 pm

I can’t believe Bravo is gone…

Allie - December 10, 2008, 1:34 pm

Fox Business !!!

Thomas Conroy - December 10, 2008, 1:53 pm

This is horrible! Where is TCM (turner classic movies)??? That is the only thing I watch! :(

I’m going to have to tape everything on the dvr at home…

Erica - December 10, 2008, 4:13 pm

No TCM, no Bravo??? So glad we’re getting Showtime, but why are we losing channels too???

Kenny - December 10, 2008, 4:30 pm

NO CSN!?!?! how am i supposed to watch the caps now?

sam - December 10, 2008, 4:58 pm

Aw man. No Bravo.
BUT NFL NETWORK AND CHILLER. Cooooool.

Kelly - December 10, 2008, 5:03 pm

I’m excited for Showtime but give back TCM and Bravo!!!

Rachel - December 10, 2008, 6:51 pm

no CSN????? How am i supposed to watch the Wizards games, wth??

Alex - December 10, 2008, 7:53 pm

… a lil late with the nfl network, won’t get too much use out of it come spring semester…

faux real - December 10, 2008, 7:55 pm

Yeah man I can’t believe they got rid of Bravo. SO many people watch that.

On the plus side, every bravo show is on sidereel. Also, I’m thoroughly excited about LOGO, especially since I asked for it when they did the TV survey. =)

Paula - December 10, 2008, 8:17 pm

Bravo is still channel 29 on my TV!

Elizabeth - December 10, 2008, 9:38 pm

ARGHHHHH, BRAVOOOOOOO!!! That’s super upsetting. I can only hope there was some kind of horrendous typo. I’ll have to find another source for my addiction to Top Chef and Project Runway. :(

Helen Zhang - December 10, 2008, 10:11 pm

YAY-ESPNs, HBOs, Showtime, G4, NFL Network, MTVs

NAYs-Game Show Network (really), No Bravo, No Comcast Sportsnet, No Disney, Soapnet (Dubya Tee Eff), GEMS TV (-_-), CurrentTV (you mean Youtube?)

BRING BACK BRAVO!

Vincent - December 10, 2008, 10:27 pm

HD, What other HD channels did they have? i only thought there were the same 4?

steve - December 10, 2008, 10:45 pm

Is it just me, or is the new cable coming in really bad?… it could be the rain, but the picture is very very grainy and ABC barely comes in at all.

Kenny - December 11, 2008, 12:02 pm

@steve: They had quite a few. I can’t remember most of them off of the top of my head because I just flipped through them to find something good. The ones I do remember are: Universal HD, USA HD, and Sci-Fi HD.

HD - December 11, 2008, 12:49 pm

UM Losing Bravo is devastating. Maybe I need to grow up, but no Disney?? ICK

Kay - December 11, 2008, 1:07 pm

@Kenny,

the quality is bad for most channels and I hope it is because of the rain…. I had thought it was just my tv or the cable in general.

Emily - December 11, 2008, 2:00 pm

So I tried their advice of using tvguide.com …. there is no listed UMBC Cable provider.

Nancy - December 11, 2008, 2:02 pm

Anyone picking up the digital signals ok? I’m getting all the analog channels… well most everything except channel 96 but I can’t seem to find any digital signals.

beege - December 11, 2008, 3:50 pm

I’m just ridiculously happy about 36 and 37. That’s all I watch at home. That, and Investigation Discovery.

Ashley - December 11, 2008, 4:31 pm

NO DISNEY CHANNEL!?!? Are you kidding me!?! How the heck am I going to watch Hannah Montana or the Suite Life on Deck! This is an OUTRAGE!

Hannah - December 11, 2008, 5:04 pm

A TV guide channel would be nice!
How could you take that away! It’s pretty essential!

Brian - December 11, 2008, 7:11 pm

please tell me that im just not seeing it on the list… where is the TRAVEL CHANNEL?!?

Bourdain Lover - December 12, 2008, 7:47 am

sweet the Chiller and Independent Film Channel ^_^

rawr - December 12, 2008, 8:58 am

The did NOT just take away Travel Channel from me! Oh my god…this is getting ridiculous.

Lose VH1 Classic, bring back Travel Channel!

Andrew M. - December 12, 2008, 12:18 pm

They need to get more HD channels, pronto.

AmericanDragon - December 12, 2008, 6:14 pm

Where is the Disney Channel thats all I watch omg i was excited get rid of WETA kids and bring Disney back!!!!!!

Ashley - December 12, 2008, 6:41 pm

Can’t… watch… terps…………………….. ;(

asdfadfasdf - December 12, 2008, 8:06 pm

why do we have the big 10 network? last time i checked we didn’t have a football team…also there are several channels that could have easily been swapped for bravo…aka GEMS? GODTV? MTV2? Also, my tv keeps losing signal, freezing, and otherwise being dumb. This never happened before they switched providers. moral of the story: switch back to the old cable channels. kthnxbye

cath - December 13, 2008, 3:36 pm

Looks like everyone can turn to channel 26 each night for some good ole fashioned GOP talking points now instead of Bravo.

Lewis - December 14, 2008, 12:44 am

anyone know what the provider is now? I need to know that to set up my guide on media center

obo - December 14, 2008, 3:09 pm

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEY TOOK AWAY TCM AND BRAVO… Devastation!!!!

Heather - December 14, 2008, 4:00 pm

Personally I do not like then new TV service here. I don’t like that they took away the travel channel :( On the flip side I am happy they added HBO2 and Showtime.

Van - December 14, 2008, 4:20 pm

Im so upset about this!! No Bravo, Travel Channel, or TCM…those are the only channels i watch! and on top of that, the reception sucks.

Nicole - December 14, 2008, 5:54 pm

more HD some hd Movie channels would be cool and bring back the big one’s like usa

David - December 15, 2008, 12:45 pm

I’m glad about finally having Showtime but no Travel Channel?? But No Reservations! That’s essential.

And yeah the reception sucks too.

Jewels - December 15, 2008, 1:59 pm

Most of the online TV guides including tvguide.com have been updated with UMBC’s channel lineup.
