Frazier out, Hill in for women’s basketball

November 25th, 2008 - 11:49 by Donald Daniels

Early today women’s basketball made two changes to their lineup. Senior guard Chantay Frazier is no longer a member of the 2008-09 roster as she withdrew from UMBC due to family matters to go back to her hometown of Carthage, Miss. Head coach Phil Stern expressed his condolences as he addressed the Frazier leaving.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Chantay and her family,” Stern said. “It is our hope that she will someday return to the university to get her degree.”

Frazier last season averaged 10.8 points per game as she become a formidable scoring threat toward the end of last season. The empty roster spot was filled today as well as 6-foot-3 volleyball player Sarah Hill joined the squad.

Stern as announced that he will insert her into the lineup as early as this week when the team takes part in the Iona Thanksgiving Classic. Hill will play with fellow teammate freshman Iman Kennedy as both players were a part of the 2008 volleyball team that lost to Binghamton the America East volleyball semi-finals last Friday.

Both Hill and Kennedy will add depth to the front court for the Retrievers and hopefully will pay dividends in the post.

With a record of 2-2, the Retrievers average 40 rebounds per game while giving up 47 as well as averaging 3.5 blocks per contest. It will be interesting to see how different the team will perform now that they have depth on the low blocks to compliment the play of junior guard Carlee Cassidy and AEC Rookie of the Week award recipient freshman guard Katie Brooks.
