How do you feel about Governor O'Malley's proposed three percent tuition increase for USM students?

It is too much to ask of students.
It is understandable, but I’d rather not pay for it.
It is a great way to fund the University System of Maryland during a time with budget cuts.
I don’t know enough about it to have an opinion on the subject.

Women's lacrosse crushes Howard 19-1

The UMBC women's lacrosse team broke the hearts of the Howard fans on Valentine's Day as they dominated on both sides of the field, starting off the 2009 season with a huge win over the Bison.

Only losing three seniors from last year's team, the Retrievers are looking to build upon the chemistry they formulated a season ago. After weeks of preparation, UMBC came out strong in their game versus Howard.

In the first half, the Retrievers got things started as senior Kara Dorr scored a free-position goal 1:19 into the first half. This goal would be one of many by the black and gold as they gave the Bison headaches on Saturday afternoon. Defensively, the Retrievers were stout as they shut out Howard in the first half giving UMBC a 12-0 advantage going into halftime. In the second half, UMBC allowed a goal as Howard's Sakita Holley snuck one past the UMBC defense at the 14:03 mark. After that, the Retrievers put the finishing touches on an 18-point blowout win at Greene Stadium with a final score of 19-1.

UMBC held a 16-6 advantage on draw controls, a 13-5 advantage on ground balls, and out-shot the Bison 35-2. In addition, eight different Retrievers had at least one goal and 13 Retrievers had at least one point. Point statistics for individual players include both goals scored and goals assisted.

Dorr had a career-high four goals and five points in the win. Senior Abbey Swift, sophomore Meagan Linkous, and freshman Bria Phillips all finished the game with hat tricks. Freshman Emily Coady had a great collegiate debut as she dished four assists in the win. In goal, juniors Kate Quick and Susie Sweeney performed well in the few opportunities they had to turn away Howard's attack. Quick had two saves while Sweeney had one.

As the team returned home from the nation's capitol, they will likely not have as easy a time dealing with their next opponent. UMBC will head to Nashville, Tenn., to take on No. 12 Vanderbilt. The Commodores are coming off a 14-13 loss at home to No. 9 UNC. This game will be an early test for the Retrievers.
