Women's soccer wins first season opener in 12 years

For the first time since 1998 the women's soccer team walked away from their season opener with a victory. That victory came against Delaware State of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, a team that UMBC defeated last year.The women's soccer team scored four goals in the first half of the game en route to their 4-1 win over the Hornets, and leading the way were seniors Sandra Vacarino and Christina Sadowski. Women's Cross Country hopes to "break out of the basement" in 2010

The cliché "out with the old and in with the new" describes the UMBC Women's Cross Country team perfectly.With four members of the 2009 team gone, due to transfers and graduation, the team was cut down to less than half its original size. Despite that, Coach Matt Gitterman was able to recruit five new freshmen, Megan Irminger, Jasmine Martin, Kirsten McGovern, Cody Mezebish and ZabrinaPiedramartel. Men's cross country fields largest team in school history
